Dr. Oz, a former television host of “The Dr. Oz show,” was among Donald Trump’s controversial picks, widely criticised by many for his past medical claims.

A 2014 BMJ study reviewed the medical advice dispensed by Dr. Oz on 40 random episodes of his show. Their evaluation found that nearly half of the guidance provided by the man dubbed “America’s doctor” lacked scientific evidence, according to NBC News.

In a 2012 episode, he promoted green coffee extract as a “magic weight loss cure”. However, later that year, one of the companies behind this so-called weight loss miracle endorsed by Dr. Oz was forced to pay $3.5 million to the Federal Trade Commission.

The payment followed allegations that the company had used “the findings from a flawed study to make unsubstantiated weight-loss claims” to sellers, the FTC reported.
