Stir-Fried Cabbage with Garlic Recipe


Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

Main Ingredients:

  • ½ medium cabbage (about 300–400g), chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 4–5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil (vegetable, peanut, or sesame oil)

Seasoning:

  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon sugar (optional, enhances flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (for umami flavor)
  • ½ teaspoon oyster sauce (optional, adds richness)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional, for aroma)

Optional Additions:

  • 1 dried red chili (for a spicy kick)
  • ½ teaspoon chicken powder or mushroom seasoning (for extra umami)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

  1. Wash the cabbage thoroughly and drain. Cut into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Mince the garlic finely for maximum flavor.

Step 2: Stir-Frying the Garlic

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan or wok over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry for 10–15 seconds until fragrant.
    • Be careful not to burn the garlic!

Step 3: Stir-Fry the Cabbage

  1. Add the chopped cabbage to the pan and stir well.
  2. Turn the heat to high and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until the cabbage starts to soften.
  3. Add salt, sugar, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and black pepper. Stir-fry for another 2 minutes.
  4. If using, add dried red chili for a spicy flavor.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

  1. Drizzle 1 teaspoon of sesame oil for extra aroma.
  2. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  3. Stir for another 30 seconds, then turn off the heat.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy!

  • Transfer to a plate and serve hot as a side dish.
  • Pairs well with steamed rice, grilled meat, or noodles.
