That was the moment I knew—I needed to break up with him.

World

After six months away on a business trip, I came home only to discover that my boyfriend had found himself a new “dining companion.”

She acted more like the lady of the house than I ever had—busy in the kitchen, skillfully preparing three savory dishes and a soup.

Just as we were about to eat, she picked up the pair of couple’s bowls that belonged to me and David Brown. She looked at me sheepishly, stuck out her tongue, and said:

“Oh no, I totally forgot—we only have one set of bowls and chopsticks at home.
Sis, let me go find another bowl for you.”

Right in front of David Brown, she scooped rice into a disposable plastic bowl and handed it to me.

And David Brown? He didn’t say a word.

At that moment, I knew—it was time to break up with David Brown.

David Brown gulped audibly and cheerfully pulled out a chair for me. I had barely sat down when Lily Harper turned to him and said:

“What are you sitting there for? Go pour her some coconut water!”

“Oh—right, right!” David Brown snapped out of it, flustered as he looked around for a glass.

He picked up a pink cup from the table, only for Lily Harper to scold him affectionately:

“Silly! Don’t use that one—it’s mine!”

Only then did he realize his mistake. Embarrassed, he put it down and started looking for another one.

After fumbling around and finding nothing, Lily Harper giggled and called him a “goofy goose,” then walked over to a cabinet and took out a clean glass.

David Brown scratched his head, totally unbothered.

One of them was in the kitchen scooping rice, the other pouring coconut water for me.

I sat quietly on the chair, watching the two of them coordinate so naturally, so intimately.

For a moment, it felt like they were the real couple who owned this home—and I was just a guest. A stranger, even.

That was the feeling… until the glass of coconut water was placed in front of me.

David Brown gently patted my head, smiling as he leaned in close.

“What’s with the grumpy face, baby?”

That one word—baby—snapped me out of it.

Oh… right. David Brown was my boyfriend.

We were the ones who truly lived in this house.

Just as I was about to speak, the sound of dishes crashing echoed from the kitchen, followed by Lily Harper’s startled scream.

I didn’t even have time to react before David Brown bolted toward the kitchen in panic.

I didn’t look, but I could still hear their voices clearly.

“Oh no, I’m so clumsy! Don’t touch it, let me—be careful, you’ll cut yourself!”

“The plate was too slippery. I’m sorry,” Lily Harper’s voice sounded a little aggrieved.

“It’s fine, as long as you’re okay. Who cares about a broken plate?”

Their voices faded, soft and low, as if whispering to each other.

I closed my eyes—not because I couldn’t hear, but because I didn’t want to hear. Soon, the kitchen went quiet.

David Brown and Lily Harper came out with bowls of rice in their hands.

Two bowls. One had a puppy printed on it. The other had a kitten.

The puppy bowl went to David Brown. The kitten bowl, to Lily Harper.

They sat down naturally. Then Lily Harper suddenly smacked her forehead, sticking out her tongue playfully.

“Oh no, I forgot! We only have two bowls at home.”

She turned to me and said, “I’ll go get you another one, sis.”

She quickly ran into the kitchen and soon returned with a single-use plastic bowl.

She smiled apologetically as she placed it in front of me.

I stared at her, noticing the faint curl at the corner of her lips—a mocking little smirk—as she sat down.

And yet, David Brown noticed nothing.

He didn’t even blink at the disposable bowl in front of me. He simply picked up his chopsticks and excitedly started eating chicken wings.

As he chewed, he urged me:

“It’s really good! Come on, have a bite!”

“Yeah,” Lily Harper chimed in, half-smiling. “Make yourself at home. Don’t be shy.”

Her tone—so casual, so proprietorial—made me burst out laughing from sheer anger.

But what stung most was that David Brown didn’t react at all.

It was as if, deep down, he already accepted that Lily Harper had the right to say those things.

So he said nothing.

Didn’t even notice the humiliation I was swallowing.

And that realization… hit me harder than anything.

Just then, Lily Harper let out a surprised “Ah!” and slapped her forehead, laughing.

“Forgot to take off the apron!”

As she said it, she unfastened her apron—revealing the outfit underneath.

The moment I saw it, my eyelid twitched and my mind went blank.

Because… she was only wearing a long, white, sheer shirt.

So thin, I didn’t even have to tilt my head to see everything.

I froze, completely stunned.

Lily Harper looked at me with a glint in her eye, biting her chopsticks seductively as she turned to David Brown.

“Goofy goose, pass me a chicken wing. I can’t reach.”

“Sure,” David Brown replied immediately, ready to comply.

I can’t even describe what I felt in that moment.

All I knew was—if I kept enduring this any longer—

I’d be the textbook definition of a fool, wearing a green hat, probably with a breast tumor, and the whole world would laugh at me.

So right as he was about to feed her the wing, I stood up, grabbed the table—and swept everything onto the floor.

Food flew everywhere, splattering all over the floor—and quite a bit hit Lily Harper directly.

She screamed, recoiling as tears welled in her eyes. Her whole body trembled.

“Sis, I don’t know why you’re upset, but there’s no need to take it out on the food…”

“That’s enough!” David Brown shouted, face flushed with anger. “What’s wrong with you?!”

“I didn’t want to say anything today—”

He slammed his chopsticks onto the table.

“You come back acting all moody, and now you’re making a scene? What do you want?

Apologize to Lily Harper. Now!”

I let out a sharp laugh and asked, “You want me to apologize?”

“Yes.” His voice was firm, final.

So I slapped him. Hard.

As Lily Harper shrieked again, I grabbed David Brown by the ear, yanked him toward her, and shoved him straight into her lap.

“Apologize?” I sneered.

Before either of them could react, I ripped open Lily Harper’s shirt, exposing a swath of bare white skin.

“How about you explain to me first—”

“Why the hell was she cooking in your kitchen without any underwear on?

The moment David Brown saw that, his face drained of all color.

David Brown flinched and opened his mouth, but no sound came out.

Lily Harper scrambled to cover herself, her face turning bright red, then pale, then red again. She burst into tears.

“I—I just got out of the shower and forgot to change properly… Sis, I didn’t mean to—please don’t be mad…”

I scoffed and reached for my phone.

Lily Harper’s eyes widened. “Sis, what are you doing?”

“What do you think?” I smirked. “Taking evidence.”

“You wouldn’t!” she gasped. “Please don’t post anything online—my reputation—”

“I don’t need to post it online,” I cut her off, voice icy. “Just sending it to your school should be enough.”

Her face went sheet-white.

David Brown finally came to his senses and grabbed my wrist.

“Emily! Don’t overreact!”

“I’m overreacting?” I yanked my hand back and pointed to Lily Harper. “So it’s normal for a half-naked girl to be cooking in your kitchen?”

He was silent.

I laughed bitterly.

“Six months away, and I come back to this circus. You know what, David? We’re done.”

He reached for me, panic flashing in his eyes. “Wait—don’t be rash! You don’t even have proof that anything happened between us—”

“Are you really pulling the ‘no proof’ card on me?” I cut him off coldly. “Fine.”

I turned to Lily Harper and said sweetly:

“Then please, pack your things and get out of my house.”

She trembled and looked at David Brown.

He opened his mouth, but I raised my phone and said:

“Unless you want me to start live-streaming this. I’m sure your parents, your professors, and your followers would love to see this little love triangle drama.”

Lily Harper immediately stood up and bolted to the guest room.

While she packed, I calmly took off the bracelet on my wrist—the one David Brown gave me when we first got together—and tossed it on the floor.

It landed with a soft clink, rolling to a stop at his feet.

“Keep it,” I said coldly. “Give it to her.”

Then I turned and walked out the door.

“Not wearing anything… how is that even possible?”

David Brown couldn’t believe his eyes. He instinctively looked again at Lily Harper’s body.

Through the thin shirt, her curves were unmistakable. He even gulped without realizing it.

When David noticed what he’d just done, he quickly looked up at me. Seeing my half-smile, half-sneer expression, panic flashed across his face. He stammered out a desperate explanation:

“B-baby, listen—let me explain… I don’t know why she’s not wearing anything either!
She’s just here to cook, I’m just eating! That’s all!”

At first, Lily Harper tried to cover her chest in a panic, but the moment she heard David Brown so casually disown her, her hands froze.

She looked at him with teary eyes, utterly wronged.

But David avoided her gaze and kept holding onto mine, continuing to explain:

“Emily, she and I are just friends—purely platonic!”

A man and a woman living under the same roof. She’s wearing nothing but a sheer shirt, no bra, no underwear—and he says it’s “purely platonic”?

He might be bold enough to say it, but I’m not dumb enough to believe it.

Expressionless, I brushed off his hand and said nothing.

David truly panicked.

“We’ve been together for over five years—don’t you know what kind of man I am?
I don’t even dare watch hot girl videos on TikTok!
I swear, I have no idea why she’s not wearing anything!”

He was practically ready to swear on his life.

I didn’t want to argue, so I turned to Lily Harper.

From the moment I walked in, she had been provoking me—and now, she even dared act like she owned my home?

Lily Harper clutched her shirt tightly, eyes reddened, looking like the ultimate victim.

“Miss Carter,” she choked out, voice trembling,
“There’s nothing going on between David and me!
I don’t care if you believe it, but one thing I know—dirty minds see dirt everywhere.”

Her last line was especially sharp, practically daring me to retaliate.

I didn’t even flinch. Instead, I fired back:

“Then tell me—was it me who took off your underwear?
Was it me who forced you to wear that see-through shirt?
Was it me who asked you to dress like that just to cook for my boyfriend?
By your logic, if I walk in next time and find you both naked in bed, you’ll say I’m just being perverted again, and you two are just lying there… talking?”

I stood up, towering over her as I looked down:

“Be honest. Even you don’t believe what you just said, do you?”

Lily Harper froze, her face draining of color, a sickly pale mixed with blue.

She clearly hadn’t expected me to call out her games so bluntly, to tear off her mask without hesitation.

She bit her lip and turned to David Brown for help.

But the moment she looked at him, David instantly dropped his gaze.

She clenched her fists, turned back to me, and snapped:

“I can assure you, there’s nothing between David and me!
I wear clothes like this because of a skin condition!
My skin reacts to fabric—if it touches me, I get itchy and red, even painful!
That’s why I have to wear breathable, loose clothing!”

Her voice trembled as she shouted the last part.

“I’ve told you my most private, embarrassing secret! Are you happy now?!”

With that, she turned and ran out, sobbing.

The door slammed shut behind her.

David Brown stood frozen, staring after her.

A few seconds passed, and I heard him mutter:

“So… she’s sick…”

I looked up at him, stunned.

Then he furrowed his brows and looked at me, voice filled with blame:

“Emily Carter, why do you have to be so harsh?
She’s already suffering, and you still had to stab her where it hurts.
Don’t you feel even a little guilty?”

I didn’t know if my conscience hurt.

All I knew was that my head was pounding from sheer rage.

Especially when I looked into those stupidly innocent eyes of his—I was shaking with fury.

As if he hadn’t made me mad enough, David Brown added:

“I’ll take you over to apologize to her in a bit.”

At that moment, I felt like all the energy had been sucked out of me.

I calmly reached for the rice bowl left on the table.

David frowned, about to say something.

But before he could finish, I threw the bowl straight at his face!

“David Brown,” I said coldly, “we’re done.”

Being with you is the biggest disgrace of my life.
