They put up the flat I rented for sale, so I had to move out.
I cleaned every corner and left.
The next day the landlady called.
I got scared that they’d found something broken.
But she started to thank me for cleaning the place.
And then she suddenly said, “How come you’re still so kind even after everything?”
I was stunned for a second. “After everything?”
She hesitated, then continued, “We know the situation wasn’t fair. We never gave you proper notice. We pushed the sale without thinking how it would affect you. Most people would’ve trashed the place out of spite.”
I sighed softly. “It wasn’t your fault entirely. Life happens.”
She grew quiet for a moment, then said, “You left a note in the kitchen… the one that said ‘Thanks for the memories.’ It made me cry.”
I smiled. “That flat meant something to me. I built a little peace in there, even if it wasn’t forever.”
Before hanging up, she added, “If I ever have another place for rent… you’ll be the first I call. And no deposit either.”
Maybe kindness doesn’t always change outcomes—but sometimes, it echoes in ways you never expect.
