- 1 cup of bleach (sodium hypochlorite – common household bleach)
- 1 cup of warm water
- Cotton balls or cotton coils (you can also use paper towels rolled into thin strips)
- Gloves
- Mask (to avoid breathing in bleach fumes)
- Old toothbrush or small scrubbing brush
- Spray bottle (optional)
đź› Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Cleaning Solution
- Mix 1 cup of bleach with 1 cup of warm water in a container.
- Stir well. If you prefer using a spray bottle, pour the mixture into it for easier application.
Step 2: Apply the Bleach Solution
- Dip the cotton balls or cotton strips into the bleach solution until fully soaked.
- Carefully press the soaked cotton along the moldy silicone sealant, ensuring full contact with the affected areas.
Step 3: Let It Sit
- Leave the cotton in place for at least 10 minutes. For deeper mold, you can leave it for up to 30 minutes.
Step 4: Scrub and Rinse
- Remove the cotton and gently scrub the silicone with an old toothbrush to lift any remaining mold.
- Rinse the area thoroughly with warm water and wipe it clean with a dry cloth.
⚠️ Safety Tips:
- Always ventilate the bathroom by opening a window or turning on the fan.
- Wear gloves and a mask to protect your skin and lungs.
- Never mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners – it can produce toxic fumes.
✅ Bonus Tip – Prevent Future Mold:
- After every shower, wipe down the silicone areas.
- Use a squeegee to remove excess moisture.
- Install a bathroom fan or dehumidifier if humidity is high.
