A woman in Florida managed to escape a dangerous hostage situation, all thanks to Pizza Hut.

According to WFLA, Cheryl Treadway, from Highlands County, Florida, found an unexpected way out with the help of her cell phone and a local Pizza Hut. On May 4, 2015, while being held at knifepoint by her boyfriend, Ethan Nickerson, Treadway used her phone to order a small hand-tossed pepperoni pizza from Pizza Hut. Along with the order, she included a discreet note asking for help, explaining that she was being held hostage.

When the Pizza Hut staff received the order, they immediately recognized the hidden message and contacted the police. Authorities arrived at her home, arrested Nickerson, and saved her and her children from the dangerous situation.

Although Treadway’s story had a positive outcome, many others in similar situations are not as fortunate. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 3 women (and 1 in 4 men) experience physical violence from a current or former intimate partner.
