We often find these poisonous insects clinging to the walls of our homes, and they can damage fabrics. They can also cause itching on the skin!
Before, I thought they were just dust particles.
This insect, called Phereoeca uterella, tends to gather in the corners of walls, especially after rainy or flood seasons or during summer. It has a brown body and its shell resembles tree bark flakes. It often removes part of its body to search for food.
This tiny, poisonous insect loves to feed on fabrics and even small cobwebs. No wonder it’s often found near spider nests, under the bed, or behind the couch.
When it stings or bites, it leaves behind fine hairs, which cause irritation, bruising, and swelling. The center of the bite usually resembles a small puncture wound, about the size of a needle. The pain and itching can persist for several days, sometimes even over a week.
To prevent these insects from invading your home, make sure to regularly clean or vacuum dust, wash your clothes, and avoid letting them pile up. If you live near a road or highway, be extra cautious, as these insects are more likely to be found there.
Using organic insecticides can help. Simply spray it, and the insect will die.
