The whole story
I discovered a hidden camera in our Airbnb bedroom. It was midnight.
My husband covered it with a towel, and we went to sleep.
At 2 a.m., the door burst open.
The Airbnb owner stormed in, furious, screaming,
“You idiots, this is a smart thermostat, not a camera!”
I sat up, half-asleep, hair looking like a bird’s nest, clutching the blanket like it was my diploma.
My husband, in his panic, tried to act like a lawyer and yelled, “We know our rights!”—except he was still wearing his Avengers pajamas.
The owner pointed at the towel and said, “You’ve suffocated the air sensor. The whole house thinks it’s in Antarctica. The heating system exploded downstairs!”
Cue the awkward silence.
Somewhere in the background, the thermostat beeped pitifully, as if also disappointed in us.
We apologized about 47 times while I tried to explain that the blinking red light looked “very spy-movie-ish.”
Meanwhile, my husband tried to fix things by offering the owner half a bag of chips and a warm Coke from our mini-fridge.
