Melania Trump caught the eye of many people who tuned in to watch the coverage of Jimmy Carter’s funeral service on Thursday, as she sat beside her husband Donald Trump.
Many were quick to point out that Melania was present at the funeral, while Michelle Obama was not, though it was clear that the future First Lady looked upset throughout.
Just before the start of the funeral, Melania was blanked at one point by Karen Pence, the wife of former VP Mike Pence, but it is believed that there is a far more personal reason why she looked the way she did on the day.
Plenty of people on social media pointed out that the date of Carter’s funeral, Jan. 9, was the one-year anniversary of the death of Melania’s mother.
Amalija Knavs, Melania’s mother, died in 2024 at the age of 78 – with the former First Lady penning at the time: “Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity.
“She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy.”
Social media user Gracieback pointed out this connection on X, writing: “Melania’s mom died on January 9th last year. She looks sad. Bless her heart!”
